Connection Between King Henry VIII and Notaries
A Bit Of Notary History

Henry VIII was King of England. He was a slob, a pig, gross, and syphilis carrier. He screwed everything and anything. A real horrible disgusting creature In 1538. He had been married to Catherine of Aragon for 20 years. They had a daughter. He wanted a son to take the throne and assure his future. He asked the Pope for an annulment or a divorce. The Pope asked the House of Aragon in Spain and very important to the Pope if a divorce was OK with them. They said "no way". She was used merchandise and they would not be able to get her married off to some other royal person.  The Pope had previously appointed Henry Defender of The Faith of the Roman Catholic Church of England.
The Pope told Henry- Sorry-No Can Do!
Henry said-"Screw You" (or words to that effect.)  Ann Boelynn was pregnant with his child. He wanted a legitimate heir to the throne. He needed a divorce to marry her so the child would be legitimate.  He told the Pope. I am no longer Head of the Roman Catholic Church of England. I am now head and defender of the faith of the Anglican Catholic church of England and appointed the Archbishop of Canterbury (Maybe it was sir Thomas more) the head man of the Anglican church and got his divorce. He married Anne. She had a girl. He divorced her on the grounds of adultery because she had been sleeping with him while he was married to Catherine.  ( I told you he wasn't a nice guy).
He had it in for the Pope. He got parliament to pass the monasteries law, confiscating all the land of the church. He also took away the power of the Notary which came from the Justinian Civil Code.
Throughout the Roman empire, Notaries handled all money transactions.
No contract was legal until the notary affixed a seal. All of the notaries throughout the Roman Empire were appointed by the Catholic Pope.
Henry reduced them, in England, to witnessing signatures, administering oaths, and protesting foreign bills of exchange. In the rest of the Roman Emperor and in all countries which follow the civil law, notaries still control all money deals.
Lawyering and being a Notary are inconsistent. Lawyers are loyal to their client. Notaries are loyal only to the transaction and are neutral concerning the underlying transaction.
The Anglican Catholic Church some how became the Anglican Protestant Church of England, The King ( or Queen) of England is still the Defender of The Faith.

Well. now you know more than you cared to know about the 450 year old connection between one of the grossest men in history and the current Notary.
