Notary Public Journal

Show your love this month by making sure your documents such as power of attorney and advanced health care directive are up to date. It may be difficult for you to assign these documents later. You and your family will have peace of mind when completed.

To ensure that all actions conducted are properly recorded they use a Notary Public Journal providing a record of these notarized actions by the individual. This is a very important factor in tracking what has been notarized by each individual who preforms these actions. The journal further serves as a public record about who the notary has notarized. After all getting something notarized is done so to become proof of record and in many cases deals with public records.

Because this serves as a public recorded for a given state and the need to be able research or handle inter-state transactions that require the use of notary's there are some standards used by many states. That standard comes from the use of the identical notary public journals. This however doesn’t mean there is only one or two manufactures, there are in fact many different ones to choose from.

While it is true that each state has its own notary laws which will differ from another state, how the records are entered and keep is generally the same. After all there is going to be certain bits of information that need to be included when notarizing something and recording it into the journal. Beyond that each state may ask for a little bit more information or the position of the information could vary from state to state. To be sure on the details it is best to check with your state’s notary law information, which issued by the Secretary of State for each individual state. Regulations also limit where a notary may preform notarization, that is to say that a notary can only do notaries in those states they have licenses to work. Because of the law governing each specific state any notary who is authorized in more then one state will need to keep a separate notary public journal for each state to ensure proper documentation.

When looking at a document that has been been notarized in the past, just take a look at the SEAL or stamp. Next step in researching the seal is to contact the county in the state the seal if from, specifically a county recorder.

When making the selection of a notary public journal remember to make sure there is enough space for recording the required entries. As it is required that a notary public maintain an active journal that is is sequential for notarial acts. More information about the journal can before at http://www.sos.ca.gov/business/notary/checklist-materials.htm to get started.
